To recap, the smartphone highlights the "Mini Capsule" which is the brand's own version of Dynamic Island. It is capable of providing notifications that could be relevant or important on the dot notch display.

It also boasts a 90Hz 6.72-inch FHD + LCD (IPS), 12nm Helio G88 octa-core processor, Mali G52 2EEMC2 GPU, 6 or 8GB RAM, 128GB or 256GB eMMC 5.1 expandable memory, 5,000mAh battery and 64MP + 2MP rear cameras.

Can this be your budget Dynamic Island smartphone?

Let's take a look!

Build Quality/Design

The rear design
The rear design

The realme C55 comes with a wood-like texture but is smooth to touch on its rear cover. We also noticed that it is fingerprint resistant which is nice. However, the camera island area has glass material so that's the only part where it can get smudges.

By the way, we got the Rainy Night colorway which looks simple and neat and can still strike elegance. We also noticed that this phone has some sort of reflections when twisting it.

If you prefer different colors, you may also pick the Sun Shower and Rainforest choices.

At the front, you will see the 6.72-inch 90Hz FHD+ LCD (IPS) screen, 180Hz touch sampling rate, and 680 nits of peak brightness.

You can also notice that it has thin bezels on the up, left, and right sides while the chin bezel is way slimmer now versus the previous C series models.

On the left side, you will see SIM Card/SD card slot, and on the right portion, it covers the volume rockers and side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Moreover, it now has a centered dot notch which realme takes advantage of by implementing a "Mini Capsule".

For now, we can only see the Dynamic Island-like feature when charging, reaching a low battery or full, or when the set data limit reaches 90 percent. Since it can be toggled on the realme Lab section, it is evident that the feature is still in the experimental stage.
The dual cameras

In terms of cameras, the phone uses two sensors which are 64MP as the primary one and 2MP to aid in-depth shooting. Meanwhile, it is equipped with 8 megapixels for selfies.

Below are some of the initial shots we took.

As you can see, the realme C55 is capable of capturing detailed images in bright scenarios in our indoor and outdoor tests which produce decent colors, contrasts, and dynamic range.

On the other hand, the Night Mode particularly helps in low-light scenarios which brightens up the image quality. It took acceptable colors but the dynamic range fell short if you will take a look at the tree and the surrounding buildings.

As of the moment

realme took a page from Apple and HONOR and has brought the Dynamic-island feature to budget audiences who may want it. However, it is still in the earliest stage as Mini Capsule is limited to three functions only.

Anyways, it is more than just that and can provide what consumers need on a daily basis such as a smooth and big display, decent chipset, big battery, RAM and storage, and good cameras.

Let's all wait for its official launch which will be on April 18,2023. That will also include the official price announcement as well. In separate news, we saw some stores listed how much it will be which you may view here.

That's all for now, we will update you once the full review is up!
