Launched at the X-Summit in Bangkok, the new X-S20 features a 26.1MP X-Trans 4 sensor with 7-stop IBIS, and the X-Processor 5.

It features a larger battery, a new AI-based AF system, a new 3.5mm headphone jack, and up to 6.2K/30fps video recording.

Included with the camera are all 19 FUJIFILM film simulations including Provia, Velvia, Acros, Nostalgic Neg, and more.

The camera weighs just 491 grams. The price starts at PHP 79,990 for the body only. The lens retails for PHP 47,990.

Below are shots that were taken with a pre-production X-S20 and XF 8mm F3.5 with pre-production firmware which means that the results could improve once it becomes available.

Let's see how it performed.

We shot with the X-S20 with either the XF 8mm F3.5 or the XF 35mm F1.4 and in daylight, the images are sharp, detailed, vibrant, and clean of noise.

It is clear that the XF8mm is sharp but the XF35mm is sharper and with creamier bokeh. But the XF8mm has a significantly wider field of view which can squeeze so much into the frame.

The same could be said with shots indoors in decent and challenging lighting. What we were impressed by initially is the lack of noise at ISO 6400 in the last shot above.

Quick thoughts

The camera looks and feels very similar to the previous generation but with a slightly larger size and weight to accommodate the larger battery that is CIPA rated for 800 shots or up to 80 minutes of 6.2K or 4K video recording.

Because of the similar size, it is easy to store and carry around with you which makes it a good travel camera depending on the size of the lens you attach to it.

The image quality is similar to the previous generation because it features the same 26.2MP X-Trans CMOS sensor. But because of the new X-Processor 5, the speed of autofocus, shooting, and image processing can be felt while letting the camera's battery life last longer.

The images from the camera are what we expect from a modern FUJIFILM camera with decent sharpness, and detail but with vibrant colors and deep contrast.

Lastly, the above images were taken with a pre-production unit that was lent to us during the X-Summit in Bangkok. So the image quality could improve once the production unit comes out.

What do you guys think?
