Super-charged upgrade?

FUJIFILM announced the new X-S20 mirrorless camera with AI-based autofocus, 6.2K video recording, and a bigger battery.

The new mid-range mirrorless camera comes with a 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor with In-body image stabilization paired with the X-Processor 5. This gives it up 7-stops of stabilization which improves low-light and handheld shooting.

It comes with the new autofocus technology based on AI deep learning that the company says automatically tracks an intended subject while keeping it in focus. The evolved AF prediction algorithm enables the camera to focus even in the AF-C mode.

At the back of the camera is the 2.76-million dot EVF with 0.62x magnification. Below is the 1.84 million dot vari-angle touch-enabled LCD screen.

It includes FUJIFILM's signature 19 film simulation including the Nostalgic Neg.

The camera is powered by the NP-W235 battery which extends the battery life to nearly 800 shots or 80 mins of 6.2K or 4K video recording. This is nearly double the previous generation.

It also records up to 6.2K/30fps 4:2:2 10-bit video internally in either F-Log2, Blackmagic RAW, or 12-bit Apple ProRes.

On either side of the camera are the USB-C port, a 3.5mm microphone jack, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Users can plug the camera via USB-C into their computer and use it as their webcam. It also supports USB charging.

The camera supports accessories previously launched like the TG-BT1 Tripod Grip and the FAN-001 Cooling fan introduced alongside the FUJIFILM X-H2s.

Lastly, the X-S20 weighs only 491 grams.

The camera is accompanied by the new XF 8 F3.5 ultra-wide lens.

The new FUJINON XF 8mm F3.5 R WR is the company's new ultra-wide-angle prime lens with the widest focal length yet with 121 degrees of viewing angle. It is a 12mm equivalent in the 35mm film format.

The brand says that its unique optical design makes it possible to deliver edge-to-edge visual clarity. Inside it is made of 12 lens elements in 9 groups including three aspherical elements and two ED elements. This enables it to give a unique dramatic perspective.

Lastly, the lens weighs only 215 grams with a 62mm filter thread. It is weather resistant and is capable of operating in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius.
