Ookla: Starlink download speed beats PH competitors

Elon Musk's Starlink beats its fixed broadband internet rivals in the Philippines in terms of download speeds, Ookla said.

Starlink vs Fixed Broadband Internet in PH

According to Ookla's Speedtest data, Starlink’s median download speed was at 110.78 Mbps. It was significantly faster than all other providers combined in the country, which recorded 89.57 Mbps.

Some of the fixed Broadband internet providers in the country are Globe Telecom, Inc., PLDT Inc., Converge ICT Solutions, Inc., and SkyCable.

However, the satellite internet provider lagged behind in terms of upload speeds.

Starlink recorded an upload speed of 13.69 Mbps, while its competitors scored 88.14 Mbps.

Starlink's latency was also behind all other providers combined with 162 milliseconds versus 22 milliseconds, respectively. 

The Musk-led company launched in the Philippines in February.

According to its website, customers in the Philippines will be able to enjoy download speeds of 50-200 Mbps.

During its launch, it offered a PHP 2,700 per month fee for the service and there was a one-time payment of PHP 29,320 for the hardware.
