Globe's mobile data revenues hit record high in Q1

Globe Telecom reported Tuesday that its mobile data revenues from January to March of this year reached PHP 21.7 billion, up 4 percent from PHP 20.8 billion a year earlier.

Strong demand for mobile data drives growth

In a statement, the telco titan also said mobile data traffic surged to 1,352 petabytes during the period.

Globe said revenues from mobile data continued to drive its mobile business.

Meanwhile, traditional mobile voice and SMS revenues recorded a drop in the quarter.

Mobile data services sustained its growth momentum, and we are pleased to report that our deliberate monetization efforts and base management initiatives continued to bear fruit, said Darius Delgado, Head of Globe Consumer Mobile Business.

To deliver world-class connection, Globe said it continues to invest in its network buildup. For the first quarter alone, Globe spent PHP 17.6 billion, 90 percent of which was allotted for data requirements.

Globe said it fired up 220 new cell sites and upgraded over 3,000 mobile sites to LTE.
