Funimation x Crunchyroll

Bye, Funimation

To recap, Sony Entertainment and Crunchyroll acquired Funimation in 2022.

In a press release, they assured that the transition will not impact the users' access to the vast library of anime on Crunchyroll.

Funimation said that the merger with Crunchyroll will provide its fans with an "exceptional" streaming service and the "largest anime library" in the world.

However, Crunchyroll noted that it will not "support Funimation Digital copies". This means that all digital copies are going away once the merger is completed.

We understand that you may have concerns about your digital copies from Funimation. These Digital copies available on Funimation were a digital access to the content available on the DVDs or Blu-rays purchased," the site confirms. "Please note that Crunchyroll does not currently support Funimation Digital copies, which means that access to previously available digital copies will not be supported. However, we are continuously working to enhance our content offerings and provide you with an exceptional anime streaming experience. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to explore the extensive anime library available on Crunchyroll.

Funimational legacy users will also have to pay for the Crunchyroll subscription rates instead of the original rates.

Funimation does not work here in the Philippines unless you use a VPN. It'll have very little effect on local anime fans.

Meanwhile, Crunchyroll works here.
