Globe, Smart offers FREE roaming services to Pinoys in Taiwan following the massive quake

In a press release, both local telco giants Globe and Smart announced that they are offering FREE roaming services for Filipinos in Taiwan following the massive quake.

Globe FREE roaming services after the quake in Taiwan

Globe said that they are offering FREE connectivity support which includes roaming call, text, and data services, to Filipinos in Taiwan following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Wednesday morning.

Globe Postpaid, Prepaid, and TM users currently using roaming services in Taiwan will get FREE 15 minutes of incoming and outgoing calls, 15 texts to all networks, and 1GB of data (whichever service is currently available) good for 7 days at no extra cost.

To avail of the service, Globe and TM customers only need to connect to Globe’s roaming partners ⁠Taiwan Mobile and Chunghwa Telecom. A confirmation message will be sent to customers advising them that the FREE roaming offer is ready for use. No need to register.

Here are the steps:

  • To make a call, dial "+" plus country code, area code and telephone number (ex. +63773101212) or dial "+" plus country code and mobile number (ex. +639171234567).
  • To send a text, type "+" plus country code and mobile number (ex. +639171234567).
  • To use the free 1GB data allocation, turn on mobile data and data roaming and set the network connection to 3G or LTE. Postpaid customers are encouraged to only turn on their mobile data and data roaming once they have received the activation message.

 
Meanwhile, Smart is also offering data load assistance to all Smart and TNT roaming customers in the affected country.

Smart and TNT roaming customers will receive free roaming data load assistance for three (3) days in Taiwan.

How to use the FREE Smart roaming in Taiwan after the quake?

1. Turn on the phone and connect to Smart network partners
2. They will receive a text message with instructions that they can easily follow.

The users can use these services so that they can use to contact their families or the authorities to report their situation.

According to the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) Facebook page, the Taiwan Ministry of Labor listed 159,480 Filipinos in Taiwan with 150,666 overseas Filipino workers.

DMW also opened a Help Desk for OFWs who may need assistance after the earthquake.
