Local telco giant Smart has just announced that its subscribers may now conveniently switch their physical SIM to an eSIM without changing their number.
This move by Smart is a "first-of-its-kind" feature for prepaid subscribers in the Philippines one-upping its closest rival Globe who recently launched its eSIM service but without the said feature yet.
1. Present the physical SIM together with any valid government ID at the nearest Smart Store in your area.
2. The fee is just PHP 99.
On the other hand, Smart Postpaid and Smart Infinity members may also upgrade to an eSIM by simply heading to any Smart Store.
Meanwhile, non-Smart subscribers may switch a physical SIM into a Smart Prepaid eSIM for FREE by obtaining their Unique Subscriber Code from their current network provider and submitting the required documents (valid government ID, a screenshot of their current balance, and a signed application form, among others) to the nearest Smart Store.
In short, it is now easier to get your eSIM with Smart whether on Postpaid or Prepaid.
To recap, eSIM is the digital version of a physical SIM. It offers a quick and easy way for mobile users to enjoy data, call, and text services without inserting a physical SIM card into their device. Since it is digital, an eSIM is easier to activate, manage, transfer, and secure from damage compared to a physical SIM.
According to Smart, its Prepaid eSIM is compatible with eSIM-capable devices, such as the latest flagship handsets of Apple, Google, HUAWEI, and Samsung, among others.
