Don't update to iPadOS 18 for now
According to MacRumors, some Reddit users experienced bricking after an interruption during the installation process, causing their devices to stop powering on. This led to complete replacements for those affected at least for stores with immediate stock of M4 iPad Pro.
To be fair, not all owners of the M4 iPad Pro had an issue when installing the update. MacRumors said that the issue may have been related to installing the iPadOS 17.7 update first, before downloading to iPadOS 18. Although Apple has not officially claimed the cause just yet.
Meanwhile, Apple confirmed the bricking issues with MacRumors which you may read the company's statement below.
We have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models as we work to resolve an issue that is impacting a small number of devices.
