Sharp AQUOS R9 pro unveiled in Japan: SD8sG3, IGZO OLED, large sensor Leica cameras

Sharp introduced the new AQUOS R9 pro, with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and large-sensor Leica main and telephoto cameras for the Japanese market.

The new Pro variant of the AQUOS R9 pro features a slim black slate with a large circular camera module.

In front is the 6.7-inch Pro-IGZO OLED display with a 3,120 x 1,440 resolution and a 1-240Hz variable refresh rate.

Inside the phone is the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 octa-core processor, 12GB RAM, 512GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery. It features a unique vapor chamber design that cools the internals by dissipating the heat towards the outer ring of the camera module.

On the punch hole on the front display is the 50MP f/2.2 selfie camera while at the back are the 50.3MP f/1.8 main camera with a 1/0.98-inch sensor with OIS, a 50.3MP f/2.2 122-degree wide-angle camera and a 50.3MP f/2.6 telephoto camera with 1/1.56-inch sensor, OIS and 20x digital zoom with an LED flash. It supports Dolby Vision video recording.

Other features include IP68 water and dust resistance rating, NFC, nano-SIM, e-SIM, Bluetooth 5.4, and WiFi.

The Phone measures 162 x 78 x 9.3 mm and weighs 229 grams. Included in the box is a genuine Sharp case with a shoulder strap and a camera attachment that allows mounting commercially available lens filters.

Japan price with direct to PHP conversion (no taxes and duties yet):

AQUOS R9 pro - JPY 190,000 (around PHP 72K)

Sharp's teased flagship smartphone will be launched in Japan in December 2024 and is planned to launch in Taiwan, Indonesia, and Singapore soon after.
