Not an SE: Apple launches budget yet durable iPhone 16e w/ 2-in-1 48MP cam, starts at PHP 39,990
American tech giant Apple launched its budget smartphone of 2025, the iPhone 16e.

Contrary to earlier leaks, Apple isn't calling it an "SE" iPhone this time.
According to the company, the new iPhone 16e boasts a "durable" aerospace-grade aluminum body available in an "elegant" Black or White Finish, designed to withstand life's "oops, whoops, and oh nooos."
Moreover, it has the Ceramic Shield protection for its display which they claim to be "tougher than any smartphone glass".
Completing its durability feats, the new iPhone is equipped with IP68 dust and water resistance, which can withstand up to 6 meters of fresh water drops for up to 30 minutes.
The handset measures 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.80 mm and weighs just 167 grams.

For specs, not bad. The handset uses a compact 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 2532 x 1170 resolution at 460 ppi, True Tone, P3 color gamut, Haptic Touch, and a peak brightness of 1200 nits. It also has an oleophobic coating to provide some sort of fingerprint resistance.
In the notch, it has a Face ID-ready 12MP f/1.9 TrueDepth camera with Autofocus (Focus Pixel) and Retina Flash. This has up to 4K 60fps video recording capabilities as well.
Similar to the iPhone 16, the device is powered by the capable 3nm Apple A8 chip with a 6-core CPU (2x performance + 4x efficiency cores), 4-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. The chip is paired with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of memory.
Apple claims that its lithium-ion "all-day" battery can last up to 26 hours of video playback and has 20W USB-C fast charging support and Qi wireless charging.
For cameras, it uses a 2-in-1 camera system featuring the 48MP f/1.6 Fusion 26mm primary camera with optical image stabilization that can do integrated 12MP f/1.6 52mm 2x telephoto snaps with optical image stabilization. This can record up to 4K 60fps Dolby Vision videos with audio zoom and up to 240fps slo-mo videos as well.
The handset also packs an action button, stereo speaker setup, 2x microphones, WiFi, 5G (Apple C1 5G modem), 4G LTE, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, NavIC, and dual SIM card support (nano + eSIM).
Out of the box, it runs with iOS 18. This obviously has support for Apple Intelligence (GenAI) as well.
