Providing what the customers deserve

So far, the Magic series has been limited to five years of Android updates and five years of security patches. But that will change now after the major commitment HONOR said during the ongoing  Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona.

The phone maker pledges they will provide up to 7 years of major upgrades for its Magic Series, including 7 years of security patches too.

This seven-year Android OS and security update initiative is part of the HONOR ALPHA PLAN. The new policy will first take effect in Europe before expanding to other regions.

With this announcement, HONOR is following the footsteps of Google and Samsung for providing very long and reliable software support for its devices. It would be interesting to see other brands also step up in this category for a win-win situation for its customers.

HONOR is also positioning this initiative as a step toward sustainability. By offering longer software support, the company aims to reduce electronic waste, as users are more likely to hold onto their devices for extended periods.

The brand pointed out that it is "taking a leading role globally in device lifecycle management, in line with the EU's Circular Economy and Ecodesign Regulation.
