Authorities recently seized unlicensed iPhones and iPads sold in Binondo
According to a report by ABS-CBN, authorities recently seized unlicensed iPhones and iPads being sold in Binondo, Manila.
During their operation on July 5, they confiscated 37 iPhones and 263 iPads valued at around PHP 3.5 million. The devices were cheaper than the original price, but lacked clearance from the NTC and the Department of Trade and Industry.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested six individuals, including three Chinese nationals, during the operation.
Naka-display ito sa warehouse nila. Anytime bibili ka, magsabi ka lang, nando’n sa kanila. Bakamas marami pang iba ang mayroon lang sa paligid natin, CIDG Acting Director BGen. Romeo Macapaz said.
The official said the operation was part of the police campaign to protect consumers from the dangers of substandard and counterfeit electronics.
To protect yourself from possibly fake gadgets, make sure you only purchase from authorized, legitimate sellers or official channels.
