Better security and AI for the One UI 8

Samsung Electronics has announced the official rollout of its latest software platform, One UI 8. The update introduces new multimodal AI capabilities, a user experience (UX) optimized for various device form factors, and personalized, proactive suggestions.
New One UI 8

The rollout begins this week with the new Galaxy S25 series and will expand to include the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy S24 FE, and other eligible models later this year.

Enhanced Personalization and Security

A key focus of One UI 8 is providing context-aware suggestions tailored to a user's daily routine. The update pairs these personalization features with new security architectures designed for AI-powered services.

New and upgraded features include:

  • Now Bar - Shows real-time app activity and media player controls directly on the FlexWindow of the Galaxy Z Flip.
  • Now Brief - Offers personalized daily updates on traffic and reminders, as well as curated "Samsung Moments." It also provides media recommendations based on user subscriptions and interests, alongside health insights from Galaxy Watch.
  • Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) - A new security feature that creates encrypted, app-specific storage environments on the device to isolate sensitive information.
  • Knox Matrix - Enhances account security by automatically signing devices out of a Samsung Account if a serious risk is detected, notifying the user across their connected Galaxy devices.
  • Upgraded Secure WiFi - Now incorporates post-quantum cryptography (PQC) to strengthen protection for data transmitted over networks.

Multimodal AI Integration

The update is powered by multimodal AI that combines visual, auditory, and contextual intelligence. New AI-driven tools are designed to make interactions with Galaxy devices more intuitive.

Key AI features include:

  • Gemini Live - Allows for voice-based interaction with an AI that can understand and respond to what the user is seeing on screen in real time.
  • Circle to Search with Google - Now offers in-the-moment gaming help, providing information on characters and strategies. Its translation capabilities have also been improved, allowing for real-time text translation overlaid on screen as users scroll.

UX Optimized for Different Devices

Compatible with different screen sizes

One UI 8 is engineered to adapt to different screen sizes, from smartphones to tablets, aiming to boost productivity and efficiency.

Updates to the user experience include:

  • AI Results View - Displays results from AI features in a separate Split View or Floating Window to keep the original content visible.
  • Galaxy AI for Large Screens - Enhances Multi Window functionality, allowing users to drag and drop AI-generated content directly into their workflow. Tools like Drawing Assist and Writing Assist are also optimized for larger displays.
  • FlexWindow Enhancements - Gemini Live is now accessible directly on the Galaxy Z Flip's cover screen for hands-free use. Customization options for the FlexWindow have been expanded, including auto-curated wallpapers from the Gallery and customizable emoji wallpapers.
  • Audio Eraser - A new toggle within video and audio apps that can detect and remove background noise, such as wind or traffic, with a single tap.
  • Adaptive Clock Design - Features a new clock design on the lock screen that stretches and adapts to the user's wallpaper, with customizable font size and color.

The update also includes other AI-powered tools such as Portrait Studio for generating stylized pet portraits and Call Captions, which converts voice into text during phone calls.
