Time to go nuclear again?
President Bongbong Marcos Jr. wants to revisit nuclear energy production for the country's energy security amid rising electricity costs.
Pushing the envelope further, perhaps it is time for us to revisit nuclear energy production, Marcos said in his fifth State of the Nation Address.
After all, we are already using nuclear energy in the fields of medicine, in agriculture, water filtration, and the upcycling of plastic, he added.
Marcos expressed confidence in nuclear energy's capacity to reinforce energy security and to bring down the cost of electricity in our country.
The president said the government will ensure the safe use of nuclear power while clearly explaining its benefits to the public.
