Earlier, Samsung launched the new Galaxy S9 and beefier Galaxy S9+. As expected, both are amazing looking phones so far.

The gorgeous Samsung Galaxy S9!

But, if you need a more compact device for less, then the smaller and more affordable Galaxy S9 could be the one for you!

Let's check it out!

Meet Samsung Galaxy S9

Shiny body!
Shiny body!

As expected, the new Samsung Galaxy S9 still look like the Galaxy S8 with stunning sandwiched glass and metal design and IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

Craftsmanship is still stunning!

But this time, the body is narrower than ever at 147.7 mm versus 148.9 last year. Then like the Galaxy A8, the S9 has a better fingerprint scanner placement at the middle part behind the phone.

However, due to its new internals and variable aperture camera, the phone is a bit thicker at 8.5 mm versus the 8.0 mm last year.

There's no need to worry about the new thickness of the Galaxy S9 though. This device now feels better to hold than ever. The heft is perfect for me at 163 g as well. It still prone to fingerprint smudges though.

This handset is a BEAST, trust us!

It highlights Samsung's new 64-bit Exynos 9810 octa-core processor with A.I. capabilities built under the 10 nm FinFET process. It also features one of the highest GPU around, the Mali-G72 MP18. It's simply one of the most powerful in the world today.

Samsung also coupled it with enough 4GB RAM and 64GB of expdandable storage. It also has 3,000mAh of battery with fast charging and wireless charging support.

The camera it has is very promising too! It's one of the very few with a variable aperture camera setup. In particular, it goes with a single 12MP (f/1.5 / f/2.4). Its the first Samsung phone with up to 960 fps super slow-mo mode that works even in lowlight.

Only the S9+ with dual cameras and Live Focus mode has a better camera specs than this on paper so far.

It also has Dual Pixel, OIS, multiframe, and dual tone LED flash. In front, it has an 8MP f/1.7 wide selfie shooter with screen flash. I also like that it can automatically detect the scene to adjust the aperture size.

Samsung also updated the camera UI which has the new AR Emoji mode that creates a better emoji of yourself than the iPhone X. AR selfies were like improved versions of Snapchat and IG filters.

Like the S9+, the S9 has the new Intelligent Scan which combines the facial recognition and iris scanner. The S9 also has a AKG tuned stereo speakers which is much louder compared to the old Galaxy S8.

Fingerprint scanner is also fast and accurate, OTG works, NFC, A-GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and super fast LTE Cat 18.

We also like that it now boots with Oreo OS the new Samsung Experience 9 skin. Like what Neil mentioned in our Galaxy S9+ article, the amsung Experience 9 is the lightest version of the OS ever.

The Bixby 2.0 skin now has AR and Live Translation and currency conversion.
