MWC 2018: Nokia Announced 5 New Phones Including the Nokia 8 Sirroco

Nokia is on a roll at the MWC 2018 with 5 new phones unveiled. The Nokia 8110 4G, Nokia 1 GO Edition, Nokia 6 2018, Nokia 7 Plus, and the Nokia 8 Sirroco.

Nokia and HMD Global is making a strong push in reclaiming their throne once more in the phone industry. They are still taking care of their feature phone demographic while making strides in the smartphone arena.

In their press conference at the 2018 MWC, they started their announcements with a feature phone. It is called the Nokia 8110 4G. Nokia 8110 4G is not your typical feature phone though. It focuses on simple yet intuitive UI, durability and battery life that sports long talk time and stand-by time. It also comes pre-loaded with a few apps including Google Search, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Facebook and Twitter. You can also download additional app with Nokia dedicated app store for the 8110.  It is slated for a May 2018 release with an SRP of EUR 79.

After their feature phone, they started with the smartphones. First off is the Nokia 1 GO Edition which they are touting to have a pure, up-to-date Android experience with no skins or pre-loaded apps. It is running Android 8.1 Oreo which went through months of beta tests before it was given a green light according Nokia. They are also featuring a cool Xpress-On Covers which are colorful and replaceable back covers. This is a call back from when Nokia phones can be customized to our heart's content. It is going for an April 2018 release for USD 89.

After that, they stated that they want to build on the success of the Nokia 6. In order to do that, they built the Nokia 6 2018 Edition. They improved on the build by making it out of a single block of aluminum. It is sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC which they boast to make the Nokia 6 2018 60% faster than the 2017 edition.

The Nokia 6 2018 will also have cameras with Zeiss optics, Voice Commands for Camera via Google assistant, Face Unlock, and Wireless Charging. They also want to emphasize that you can charge 50% of power for the Nokia 6 2018 in less than 30 minutes. It will come out in 3 colors which are Blue Gold, Black Copper and White and will be available on April 2018 for EUR 279.

The Nokia 7 Plus seems to be one of the showstopper for Nokia. It has a 6-inch 18;9 display, Snapdragon 660, 4GB of RAM with the same 2-Day Battery life that the Nokia 7 had. In addition to that, it has a dual rear Zeiss camera setup with telephoto lens for lossless zoom. The front camera will also sport adaptive focus.

It will also sport a Pro Mode in its Camera App, a feature that will be included in every Nokia phone that has Zeiss optics. You can expect manual controls for exposure, ISO and Shutter Speed with real time preview. If you are still looking to edit your shot, Nokia will also launch the A.I. powered Imaging suite for after-shot light adjustment and more.

The A.I. feature does not stop there as they also mentioned new selfie features as masks and Animoji-like moving emojis. It will also come out in April 2018 but the price was not revealed yet.

Lastly, they announced their flagship device named the Nokia 8 Sirocco. It is under the Android One program which may translate for a better performance and consistent updates and patches. They boasted about the sleek yet durable build of the Nokia 8 Sirroco. It was supposedly made out of 95% vacuum molded Gorilla Glass and a single block of stainless steel. 

It is IP-67 certified for dust and water resistance. It will also have wireless charging. Zeiss optics will also make an appearance with it's dual camera setup. Nokia Spatial Sound is making a come back as well with 3 Hi-Dynamic Microphones built in the Nokia 8 Sirroco.

The 6GB RAM/128 ROM variant will retail at EUR 749 and will be available in April 2018.
