In particular, the Huawei P20 with improved dual Leica cameras and the P20 Pro with triple Leica cameras smashed all records (it's not even close) at DxOMark with a total score of 102 points and 107 points respectively.

The previous owner of the camera king crown is the freshly launched Galaxy S9+ only has a total score of 99 points. It is still considered as high, but the P20 and P20 Pro are simply just several generations ahead of the competition.

Moreover, the new P20 and P20 Pro are leaps and bounds better than their predecessors, the P10 series. Both now has an improved sandwiched metal and glass body, Huawei FullView Display, Kirin 970 processor with dedicated A.I. NPU chip, Android 8.1 Oreo OS w/ EMUI 8.1 skin, and so much better overall specs.

Both the P20 and P20 Pro arrived with a stunning and truly premium metal and glass symmetrical design. It amazingly comfortable to hold. Huawei calls it the 3D glass. The company also added 4 sleek new colors including the gorgeous twilight gradient color.

A stunning phone in person!

The P20 is the smaller and slightly slimmer device with the dimensions of 149.1 x 70.8 x 7.65 mm. On the other hand, the P20 Pro goes with the bigger 155 x 73.9 x 7.8 mm. As a result, the phones are very pocketable. However, they are prone to fingerprint smudges.

Huawei also added water and dust resistance on these new phones. The P20 has the lesser IP53 rating while the P20 Pro goes with the standard IP67 water and dust resistance. The P20 is designed to survive rainfalls and spills while the P20 Pro can be submerge in fresh water for up to 10 meters in 30 minutes.

Both phones are considered as small for their screen size though. The P20 has a 5.8-inch FHD+ IPS screen, but it is just as small as traditional phones with 5.2-inch screen. The P20 Pro on the other hand has a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display, but it looks just as small as traditional 16:9 phones with 5.5-inch panels.

However, like the iPhone X, Huawei's new flagship P-series phones now comes with a notch. Why? Huawei wants to make the phones slimmer near bezel-less look than the competition. It has a tall 18.7:9 screen aspect ratio.

The notch is not for everyone, but it is way smaller than the notch of the iPhone X!

Huawei knows that not everyone will like the notch. So, they made it much smaller than the notch of the iPhone X while still containing the massive 24MP selfie camera, earpiece, and other sensors. Moreover, Huawei added an option that allows users to turn off the notch digitally to make your phone look like a regular 18:9 phone.

Huawei also managed to squeeze an "edgeless" fingerprint scanning design that also acts like a trackpad in front. Again, some may like it and some will not. Personally, it would have been better if it is located at the back to make room for more screen.

On top of the phone, Huawei added an IR Blaster that users can use as a remote control to their aircon, TV, and other appliances. Below, there's a stereo speaker setup and the USB Type-C port with Huawei 5A SuperCharge technology support. However, like the Mate 10 Pro, it has no headphone jack slot and expandable storage anymore.

Inside, the phone still boasts the Kirin 970 octa-core processor with Mali-G72 MP12 GPU. It's still one of the most intelligent and speediest today. It also has an advanced dedicated NPU (neural processing unit) that handles A.I. tasks.

Huawei paired the P20 with ample 4GB RAM and the P20 Pro with bigger 6GB RAM. Both has 128GB of non-expandable. The P20 has 3,400mAh battery and P20 Pro has the larger 4,000mAh of juice with 5A Super Charge tech. In our experience, the Huawei Super Charge tech can full charge your phone from 0 to 100 percent in 1 hour and 15 minutes only.

On the camera part, the regular P20 has a 20MP f/1.6 monochrome sensor + 12MP f/1.8 RGB sensor w/ 4D predictive focus, AIS, 5x zoom, 4K video recording, 960 fps slow motion, and dual tone LED flash.

On the other hand, the P20 Pro has an IMPRESSIVE triple Leica camera setup. They are composed of a 40MP f/1.8 RGB + 20MP f/1.6 monochrome sensor + 8MP f/2.4 OIS telephoto sensor w/ 4D predictive focus, AIS, 5x zoom, 4K video recording, 960 fps slow motion, and dual tone LED flash.

According to Huawei, the sensor sizes of the new P20 phones are way bigger than most of the competition. Moreover, Huawei claimed that their system can automatically identify more than 500 scenarios in 19 categories and selects photography modes and camera settings to deliver incredible, professional-looking images.

They also have the new Huawei AIS which steadies handheld night shots for long exposure photography up to 6 seconds without a tripod!

For selfies, it is the first Huawei smartphone with a MASSIVE 24MP f/2.0 front camera w/ A.I. face beauty and 3D portrait lighting. The 3D portait lighting works like Apple's portrait lighting effects.

According to Huawei the selfie cam of the P20 and P20 Pro has healthy-looking skin tone adjustments and realistic 3D feature enhancements.
