Meet Cherry Mobile Selfie Two

Coming from the first Cherry Mobile Selfie, the Cherry Mobile Selfie Two now has a sleeker look, bigger screen, and better specs at a lower price tag.

The first Cherry Mobile Selfie was originally priced at PHP 9,999 while the Selfie Two is retails for just PHP 4,999.

In addition, the selfie cameras should also be better this time. It still has a pair of 13MP back and front cameras, but it now has the same S5K3L8 Samsung sensor found on the higher-end Flare S6 Selfie.

On paper, this handset is a solid contender. Let's check it out!

Unboxing / Accessories

Accessories included inside the box
Accessories included inside the box

Inside the box, you'll find the big USB wall charger rated at 1.5A, USB to micro USB data / charging cable, in-ear monitors with microphones, and some paper documents.

It has no other freebies like a screen protector and case. It would have been better if it has that in the package, but for the price, we won't complain.

Build Quality / Design

Striking red!
Striking red!

The Selfie Two's construction reminds us of Cloudfone's Thrill Metal series at the back and Flare Selfie last 2016. It has a curvy removable metal backplate painted in red.
Triple slots behind (dual SIM + dedicated microSD card slot

The frame is made out of plastic, a decent type of plastic that could withstand few drops. In front, it has a 5.2-inch HD screen with 2.5D curved glass material.

Construction feels close to premium for an affordable phone!

There's no mention of Dragontrail or Gorilla Glass protection in front though. The overall construction of the phone feels decent in general.

Design-wise, it is a pretty sleek and striking phone for the price. We like its metallic red paint finish and all its proper curves all over. The phone also looks quite slim and its camera protrusion is far from thick.

The metallic red paint finish is striking!

Side bezels are pretty slim, but the bottom bezels is quite thick. Cherry should have placed dedicated Android keys there to maximize the space.

General hold of the phone is also quite good. It is just a bit slippery at times. Most of the ports and buttons are on familiar locations. The micro USB charging port is located on top and the speaker is found behind though.

Initial Findings

Legit 13MP f/2.0 Samsung camera for selfies!

1. Design of and construction of this budget phone is great despite the thick bottom bezels. The phone is also not too small yet not too big. Just right. The 5.2-inch HD screen with 5 points of touch is quite good in performance for the price.
2. What's inside this handset is average for the price. Like the Flare S6 it boasts the 64-bit MT6737 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. Its also paired with ample 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, and 3,000mAh battery. Not bad for a budget selfie phone. The battery efficiency is quite strong so far too. Just like the Flare S6, the Cherry lowbat joke is not applicable for this phone so far.
3. The phone runs with near stock Android 7.0 Nougat OS. Sadly, it doesn't have the Cherry OS skin yet. But, fortunately, it has the nice camera UI found on the Flare S6 series with Cherry OS.
4. The camera specs on paper of this handset is fantastic for the price. It has a 13MP f/2.0 S5K3L8 sensor with dual tone LED flash for both back and front photos. Only the main camera sensor has AF though. Cherry even highlights that it can shoot bokeh or groufies. It is software based and works like the Google camera.
5. This phone has LED notifications on top, on screen Android keys, USB OTG support, and confirmed Band 28 700MHz LTE. The fingerprint scanner is quite responsive too.

We also like the effort by Cherry Mobile to make it look beautiful. The battery performance is strong so far as well.
