It is a part of the network's major expansion in Metro Manila to improve the quality of its voice, SMS, and LTE connectivity service.

Smart even boasts that there are parts of Marikina City where their subscribers can enjoy LTE-A (5CC) aggregation for devices with on LTE Cat 18 support.

To check if the claim of Smart is accurate, our team visited Marikina City. Have a look at our video below.

VLOG #1: GIZGUIDE goes to Marikina to confirm Smart's LTE speed upgrade

The devices we used in our tests are the OPPO F7, Huawei Mate 10, and Huawei P20 Pro.

In our first location, the Rustic Mornings at Mendoza Street, we used the OPPO F7 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro. The OPPO F7, a mid-ranger got a great 44 Mbps download speed and 7 Mbps upload speed.

On the other hand, the higher-end Huawei Mate 10 Pro scored better 52 Mbps upload speed and 35 Mbps download speed.

We also tried if the speed will still be respectable even on 4G data and WiFi hotspot mode. Using the OPPO F7, it clocked 32 Mbps download speed and 5.33 Mbps upload speed.

On our way to our next location, we tried the speed test on the Huawei P20 Pro flagship with LTE Cat 18 support. It got almost 64 Mbps of download speed and 40 Mbps of upload speed.

We also visited GOGIya Yolowa Korean Restaurant at Mayor Gil Fernando Ave. In that location, we recorded 63 Mbps of download speed and 22 Mbps of download speed using the P20 Pro.

We also checked Smart's LTE connectivity at Sumulong Highway where we got almost 40 Mbps of download speed and 17 Mbps upload speed.

Our last stop is at the Long Weekend Coffee located at the J. P. Rizal St. Marikina. It is the area where we got the fastest speed in our trip.

It clocked 110 Mbps of download speed and 31 Mbps of download speed.

Overall, the average download speed in Marikina based on our test is at around 55 to 60 Mbps. The upload speed average is around 18 Mbps.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to test go to the area where Smart has 5CC LTE-A.

But overall, Smart's LTE network in Marikina is still way faster than the 12 Mbps average download speed of Smart in the Philippines.

Hopefully, the rest of the country will enjoy the speed that Marikina has right now.
