First off, they plan on supporting the versatile Socket AM4 up until 2020 so that it can continue supporting components from entry-level APU up to the latest AMD Ryzen processors. They plan on doing this via BIOS updates which is, according to AMD, a much convenient and efficient way in terms of upgrading your PCs.

From that, they announced the new B450 motherboards that will have a scalable AM4 socket making it ready for both CPU and APU builds.

It will support the following processors:

  • AMD Athlon Processors
  • 7th Gen AMD A-Series APU
  • 1st Gen AMD Ryzen Processors
  • 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen Processors
  • AMD Ryzen Processor with built-in Radeon Vega 8 Graphics

In terms of I/O ports and technology, it will support PCIe 3.0, DDR4 RAM and USB 3.1 Gen 2. This makes it future proof as well. In addition to that, it will also have the AMD StoreMI technology that essentially combines your SSD and HDD to form a fast and huge storage solution for free.
