Quick thoughts

The main camera has three lenses. The images from the standard and wide angle lens produce the best images from the Mate 20. The color, contrast and sharpness is strong especially in day light. In low light, the normal and wide lenses images are soften compared to the daylight images because of noise reduction.

The telephoto on the other hand produces slightly softer images compared to the wide and normal lenses (especially in low light). However, it does have similar contrast and colors with the normal and wide lenses. In addition to this, the highlights blow out easier on the telephoto lens though.

The 24MP selfie camera produces better selfies compared to the P20 Pro. The color, contrast and sharpness is noticeably better. In the P20 Pro, our skin tones leaned to lighter tones now, it is more accurate. We did notice that in some instances the skin tones are still off like my lips in the day light selfie.

The portrait mode is better with edge detection. It still struggles with hard fine objects like hair but it is an improvement over the P20 Pro. Portrait lighting does something similar and you can also change the shape of bokeh from balls to hearts.

In low light, the selfie camera images become noticeably softer with less contrast. Honestly, some selfie-centric phones still produces better selfie images. We hope Huawei can improve their selfie camera results.
