CES 2019: Huawei MateBook 13 announced, a serious MacBook Air competitor?

At CES 2019, Huawei officially released the MateBook 13, a promising ultrabook that is set to compete with Apple's MacBook Air.

It's the mid-range brother of the MateBook X Pro which generated a lot of hype last year with its incredible design and powerful hardware for the price last year.

The MateBook 13 is 14.9 mm thick which is slimmer than the MacBook Air.

The laptop features a 13-inch screen with crisp 2160 x 1440 resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio and Intel 8th Gen Core i5-8265U Whiskey Lake processor or a more powerful i7-8565U processor with NVIDIA MX150 inside.

It also has 8GB RAM, 256GB or 512GB storage, 42WHr battery, fingerprint reader on the power button, backlit keyboard, and 2x USB-C ports. The USB-C on the left is for data transfer and charging while the right side has data and DisplayPort support.

The MateBook 13 also comes with a webcam placed on the slightly thicker bezel on top versus the MateBook X Pro. It doesn't have the keyboard webcam anymore.

Price and availability

The MateBook 13 comes with a USD 999 (PHP 52K) starting price. The i7 version is priced at USD 1,299 (PHP 68K). It will go on sale starting January 29.
