End of the Windows 7 era

Microsoft has been supportive of the Windows 7 users that chose to stick with the OS even after two updated iterations. Mainstream support has already ended way back in January 2015 but Microsoft continued rolling out security patches and fixes to protect Windows 7 users who refuse to migrate.

On January 14, 2020, all support for Windows 7 will come to an end. That means no critical security updates and patches to protect users from threats and vulnerabilities. This means if hackers find any exploit or holes in the OS then there will be no official patch for it.

Time to migrate?

Microsoft says that you can continue using Windows 7 at your own risk. However, this support termination will mean increased Windows 10 adoption. Expectations for loyal Windows 7 using it without protection is there as this also happened with Windows XP users.

Windows 8 is also losing support soon. It is scheduled to stop receiving patches and updates on January 2023. The Microsoft store already stopped accepting Windows 8/8.1 apps from their developers.
