PLDT still wants Huawei for its 5G rollout
Its chief Manuel V. Pangilinan shrugged off claims of the US government, warning other countries against a potential threat to their national security if Huawei products would be used.
However, he also noted he asked Huawei to identify "possible danger points."
Pangilinan said the Chinese tech leader’s offerings as well as its pricing were competitive.
I think they are ahead of the others technically. So mahirap 'yung (it's difficult to) shut them out just because they are Chinese, Pangilinan said.
Aside from Huawei, PLDT is also in talks with telecom vendors Ericsson, Nokia, and ZTE for its 5G deployment.
PLDT’s rival
Globe would also team up with Huawei for its own 5G rollout.
The Pangilinan-led telco eyes to launch 5G services this year, tapping first the enterprise industry.
Globe, meanwhile, is set to boost its home business with 5G services within the first half of 2019.
