The Sony Xperia XZ3's camera fell short of expectations after failing to beat the DxOMark score of the Xperia XZ Premium (early 2017).

DxOMark, which provides image quality ratings, released its review for the Sony Xperia XZ3.

Flagship price, mid-range score

According to DxOMark, the device produces good color rendering and crisp photos when shooting in good lighting conditions, whether in outdoor or indoor. The Sony Xperia XZ3 has also accurate autofocus.

However, the problem lies on its capacity to produce good images in low light.

DxOMark pointed out that the smartphone produces "limited dynamic range in all conditions; color casts and slightly high saturation levels; strong distortion; very noticeably noisy edges; softness in the corners; several noticeable artifacts; including ringing flare, and color quantization, and no pre-installed bokeh mode."

Still basing on the review, the Sony Xperia XZ3 again failed to make a good mark as it had more cons than pros in terms of video performance.

DxOMark noted the device is stable enough; has good target exposure; produces accurate autofocus; and while noise is still there, the Sony Xperia XZ3 can reduce it.

Nevertheless, the XZ3 is tough to recommend when looking at the performance of some of its direct rivals in the high-end bracket of the market, DxOMark concluded.

The Sony Xperia XZ3 had an overall mobile score of 79 points, said to be the second-best Sony device next to Xperia XZ Premium.

Although Xperia ZX3 failed to defeat Xperia XZ Premium's best score, we still hope the new Xperia 1 flagship can do better.

Why? It comes with promising triple camera setup at the back.

Its triple rear cameras are consisted of 12MP wide-angle lens, 12MP 2x telephoto lens, and 12MP super-wide lens.

Xperia 1 also comes with Dual Pixel PDAF and fast Eye AF technology. To recall, fast Eye AF is a tech from the company's Alpha camera professional line with up to 10fps AF/AE tracking technology.
