For the next quarters, the company targets to also equip SM supermarkets and shops in SM malls with the technology, allowing users to pay for their goods using GrabPay.

Grab app users will also be able to pay their GradFood orders with GrabPay beginning second quarter.

Today, our users use GrabPay for their transport needs, load top-ups, and parcel services. With the introduction of our partnership with SM and the integration of GrabPay into GrabFood and other services, we expect to continue our user growth trajectory this 2019, Cu said.

In December, GrabPay and SM Investments sealed the deal, which aimed at allowing consumers to pay for goods and services from offline stores of SM using GrabPay; tapping the group's banking arm BDO as well as SM business centers to enable consumers to load their GrabPay using the said top-up channels; and the creation of express lanes for GrabPay users at SM malls.

SM has more than 70 malls and over 2,200 stores with an extensive merchant network, while BDO has over 1,200 branches and more than 4,200 ATMs across the Philippines.

Grab, on the other hand, boasts over 125 million downloads region-wide and a presence in 1 in 2 smartphones in the country.
