So what's exciting about this?
Of course, many have already tried dating apps like Tinder or Bumble, but this feature from Facebook should be refreshing as you get to know your Facebook friends who are secretly hitting on you. But Facebook is promising its users that this is secured and safe, unlike other dating apps which put online dating in the bad light.
A user's dating profile would only show his or her first name and age, without the location.
Many [users] already use Facebook to start meaningful relationships. We view this as an incredible opportunity to connect people should they choose to explore meaningful romantic relationships, said Charmaine Hung, Technical Program Manager for Facebook Dating.
On Facebook dating you get more control. First, potential partners are not allowed to access your Facebook account unless you allow them to. You can also personalized your setting to limit who gets to see your dating profile, whether within your groups, friends of friends, events, to name a few.
Matches will also based on the user's preference and interests.
Facebook has also introduced a new feature to further entice users to try online dating, the Secret Crush. This lets users to choose nine people from their Facebook friends list, Hung noted.
If you choose to use Secret Crush, you can select up to nine of your Facebook friends who you want to express interest in. If your crush has opted into Facebook Dating, they will get a notification saying that someone has a crush on them. If your crush adds you to their Secret Crush list, it's a match! Hung said.
