The changes were announced at the Facebook developer conference or F8. The redesign is meant to be simpler, faster and more immersive. Facebook Groups is now getting a more prominent position.

The new design choice will allow people to easily transition from public spaces to more private places such as a specific group.

The redesigned Groups tab make it easier and simpler to find content or posts from your groups. There's also a new discovery tool designed to recommend new groups according to your interests. Content from your groups may now show up more prominently on your News Feed as well.

There's also a "Meet New Friends" feature that allows people to start friendships with new people from shared communities such as school, workplace pr city. The Events tab will also be updated to allow users to see events around them better.

Facebook's new design is starting to roll out on mobile devices as well and will be available on desktop in the next few months. The company also plans to launch a dedicated Messenger app for macOS.

Mark Zuckerberg also promised better privacy features and that it will be more of a focus going forward. The improvements on Facebook's privacy features will revolve on six things: private interactions, encryption, reduced permanence for content, safety, interoperability and secure data storage.
