To recall, the legal battle between the two companies started in 2016 when Huawei sued Samsung for allegedly infringing its 4G LTE patents.

Whatever the reason is, both companies are likely happy with the settlement

The terms of the settlement haven't been announced, but they have dropped all 40 lawsuit against one another.

Huawei and Samsung also appear to have an agreement that is believed to be some sort of cross-licensing.

Likely, both also wanted to use their resources spent on litigation to other areas especially in an increasingly difficult business of mobile phones.

In fact, Counterpoint research reported that overall smartphone shipment declined 5 percent in Q1 2019, making it the sixth consecutive quarter of shipments falling.

As of writing, Samsung is still the top dog in the mobile phone world with 21 percent of the global market share despite the -8 percent growth. On the other hand, Huawei is at the number 2 position with 17 percent of the market share and 50 percent YoY growth.
