Trump bans Huawei, but the China firm says it'll make US tech inferior

Amid the heating trade war between the US and China, an order was signed by President Donald Trump declaring a national emergency against potential threats to information and communications technology and services.

This is expected to ban Huawei as well as China-based telco firm ZTE Corp. from selling their technology to the US.

Its Department of Commerce also followed suit as it included Huawei on a blacklist, hindering the firm to do business with American companies. It also put Huawei on its "Entity List", signaling the need for US firms to secure a special license to sell products to the Chinese company.

Roger Sheng, a China-based analyst with Gartner Inc. said the recent moves from the US government could affect Huawei as it may need Qualcomm and Marvell to realize its goal of leading the 5G race.

However, Huawei claimed the situation would have a bigger blow to the US that to the former's operations.

Instead, this will only serve to limit the US to inferior yet more expensive alternatives, leaving the US lagging behind in 5G deployment, and eventually harming the interests of US companies and consumers.
