At PHP 17,999, it comes with a big screen with pop-up cameras, capable chip, big RAM and storage, large battery capacity, and triple cameras.

Let's see if it is no slough even if toned-down versus V15 Pro.

Unboxing/Accessories

What's in the box?
What's in the box?

Vivo V15 comes in a box that can easily be opened. Inside you get the unit, a 9V/2A USB wall adapter, USB-A to micro USB cable, earphones with mic, clear hard case with rubberized sides and USB port cover, and SIM ejector tool.

Build Quality/Design

The Vivo V15 is made out of polycarbonate material with a glass-like finish. The device feels premium especially since it has the heft to it. The inclusion of the Gorilla Glass 5 protection up front is a plus too.

Since it has a motorized pop-up camera system with moving parts, there's no water resistance here. Take note of that.

Speaking of the pop-up camera system, some are afraid that it might fail over time. But do not worry, it is quite durable.

Moreover, the case included looks and feels good. It is a hard case with rubber sides which gives out more protection.

In terms of design, we have the ruby bed version and it looks great. The darker hue of its gradient effect gives out a mysterious look to it.

The vertically-aligned triple camera setup is found at the top left of the device with the fingerprint scanner found at the back. There is a noticeable camera bump too which is expected given the number of sensors it has.

In front, the display is huge. It uses a 6.53-inch 19:5:9 panel with super slim bezels. AND yes, it has no notch.

Classy looking mid-ranger with notch-less full-screen design!

Vivo claimed that it goes with a 90.95 percent screen-to-body ratio that eliminates all obstructions to create the "ultimate" viewing experience.

Due to its big screen, the phone is quite large at 161.97 x 75.93 mm. But it is pretty slim at 8.54 mm.

The volume rocker and power button are at the right while a dedicated assistant button is on the left. Up top, you will find the pop-up selfie camera. At the bottom, it has the speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB port.

Without the case, the Vivo V15 is a bit slippery for me. The rubber sides of the case help with that. It is hard to operate for one-handed use due to its big 6.53-inch size.

It weighs at 189.5 g, just right.

Initial Findings

What is our first take for the Vivo V15?
What is our first take for the Vivo V15?

1. The first difference I noticed between the V15 and the Pro version is the options for the security/locking of the phone. Both have the basics like pin, password, and pattern. However, the V15 has the traditional fingerprint scanner at the back and no face unlock. The Pro version sports an In-Display fingerprint sensor and face unlock.

2. With the specs, it has, in terms of performance and gaming, the V15 is pretty snappy and capable. Games such as Arena of Valor and PUBG Mobile can reach 60fps which provides a smooth experience. 6GB of RAM is love. It has 128GB storage as well.

4G LTE works in most areas even if it doesn't have Band 28 LTE too.

3. I personally had a hard time with Funtouch OS 9 which is loaded on top of Android 9.0 Pie. I gave it a try for a couple of days but found it to be a bit cumbersome to use.

Fortunately, it is fast overall (so far) and there's a lot of other skins in the Google Play Store that you can try.

4. The triple camera system of the Vivo V15 sports a 12MP f/1.78 main sensor, 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor and a 5MP f/2.4 depth sensor with PDAF, AI and LED flash. I am impressed with the initial performance when I tested it. I need to test it more to have a full grasp of its performance though.

The 32MP pop-up selfie camera is a great feature. It allows a bigger screen-to-body ratio and no notch. The pop-up sequence is also cool and serves as a great party trick for people who have not seen it in person.

5. The difference between the V15 Pro is the In-Display fingerprint scanner was removed in favor of the faster yet more traditional fingerprint sensor behind. It doesn't have a face unlock tech though. Oh hey, there's a gyro sensor for the VR/AR boys!

As of the moment

Vivo V15 presents a great potential for a mid-range device. For PHP 17,999, it offers a lot like a great-looking design, great build, triple camera system, 32MP pop-up selfie camera and Dual Engine fast charging.

So far, it is one of my favorite sub PHP 20K phones. But, we still have our reservations for the final verdict once we finish our full review.
