Bye iTunes |
End of an era
Established last 2001, iTunes served as the online shop where Apple users could buy and download songs and movies.
However, at its annual developers conference today, the US-based tech leader said it would be breaking iTunes up into three segments: Podcasts, TV, and Music. This is expected to arrive with mac0S 10.15 update.
The Verge said the shift started on iOS, where Apple offers its Podcasts on iPhones and iPads.
The future of iTunes is not one app, it's three, said Apple senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi.
Compared to iTunes, the new apps would sport colorful sidebars and clear menus, which are easier to navigate.
For its Podcasts app, Apple noted it was already working on equipping it with machine learning feature so users could search content more easily. Its TV app, meanwhile, is said to support 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.
As the name implies, Apple music would focus on music.
