Smart to roll out VoLTE services with Samsung

Smart Communications is making its Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) commercially available following its partnership with Korea's Samsung.

The wireless unit said Samsung users, particularly those with the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+, would be the first ones to enjoy better call experience with the latest technology.

In addition to constantly innovating to deliver the best customer experience, we are also happy to partner with device manufacturers like Samsung in making technologies like VoLTE and VoWifi more accessible to our subscribers, said Mario G. Tamayo, PLDT-Smart senior vice president for Network Planning and Engineering.

VoLTE's main edge is delivering high-definition voice call quality, promising crystal-clear calls compared to those made over 3G or 2G. 

Smart also noted that customers using VoLTE-capable handsets would not need to download third-party apps and be online just to make VoLTE calls. 

Aside from the newly launched Note 10 and Note 10+, Smart said VoLTE services will also be supported by Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, Galaxy  S9 and S9+, Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10+, and Note 8 and 9. 

Users of mid-range Samsung handsets, meanwhile, such as the Samsung Galaxy A series, will soon be covered as well.
