Since 2013, Huawei sub-brand HONOR continues to deliver affordable but great quality smartphones and wearable devices. This 2019, it announced a new edition to its family, the HONOR Band 5.

This is a fitness tracker like the ones launched by Fitbit, but the main difference is its price. At PHP 1,699, it simply won't hurt your wallet while keeping records of your health-related data.

The design is similar to HONOR Band 4; the band is slim made of silicone in a matte solid color. This is also textured but with a classy and understated appeal. There were many large holes on the band to guarantee the user a nice and snug fit.
As for the body, it is also small but houses the screen in a good proportion. It is a bit thicker compared to the band that one can notice it, but not that prominent like other trackers. Somehow, one can easily forget wearing it since it’s not heavy and obtrusive at all.
We also like that it is not that prone to scratches and it has 5 ATM (up to 50 meters) water resistance.

Another good factor about this is you can choose from four different colors to express your personality. This one is available in blue, gray, coral pink if you are getting tired of the black ones.
The band features a 0.95-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 240 x 120 pixels. There’s a small Home button just below this display.
The AMOLED screen is excellent since it appears bright enough so you can see clearly all the information with just a glance. Let us also note that most AMOLED screens at this price point are rare.

The tiny screen was able to display clearly the date, time, and steps made by its user. The steps tracker refreshes daily.
At the back, you'll find the hardware for heart-rate tracking. This sensor protrudes very slightly but isn't uncomfortable when wearing the band.

After setting up the watch, it is easy to use. The watch face is customizable by using the Huawei Health app. It has a lot of watch faces that you can try.
This application is downloadable in iOS and Android devices. It connects the HONOR Band 5 to your smartphone via Bluetooth.

Huawei Health allows the user to keep a detailed record of information like sleep habits, weight history, daily burned calories or even the heart rate. It also has "My data" that can show you simple analytics on your activity, health measurements, and physical fitness.
Obviously, this device can track your steps, calories burned, and more. It also has 10 sports mode with stroke recognition for swimming.
Overall, the app is easy to navigate since it only shows the information that the HONOR Band 5 already had. This is specifically designed for those users who want to see the patterns of their fitness regimen.
Aside from heart rate tracking, the HONOR Band 5 features blood oxygen monitoring. SpO2 sensor is specifically used for monitoring blood oxygen levels during and after exercise, to make sure that enough oxygen is flowing to your muscles.
It is also the most affordable with SpO2 yet.
Moreover, it has a pretty accurate sleep tracker which can be a good reminder for the user to get enough sleep. Apart from sleep tracking, it can give you recommendations.
There are various workout modes included HONOR Band especially designed for users who run, swim, or trek. This is a great feature to have since users usually have different ways of exercising. Switching between modes is very convenient and hassle-free.

Other great features that are added to this fitness tracker are the music control and the message notification. Since the screen of HONOR Band 5 is slim and small, it's understandable that the notification is limited by the number of characters.
As for music controls, that really only makes sense for any smart fitness band. If you’re exercising it can sometimes be difficult to access your phone to change the playlist. Another plus is the inclusion of volume control, in case you want to adjust the volume of whatever music you are listening to.
The user can also set an alarm thru the Huawei Health app. This is a neat feature since the HONOR Band vibrates on your wrist which can help you wake up in case you snoozed your phone's alarm. Perhaps it would be much better if the alarm can be set on the fitness tracker itself.
Furthermore, there's also a ''Find your Phone" feature that lets you easily find your phone even it's in silent mode. Needless to say, this is pretty handy especially if you always forget where did you last put down your device.
This feature, however, works only if the smartphone is connected to the HONOR Band 5 thru Bluetooth.
The watch can last up to 14 days of standby time on a single charge. With the use of heart rate tracking and sleep tracking features, expect up to 6 days of use.
But, if you are a really heavy user that uses the watch for alarms and music playlist control at max brightness, battery life is about 3 to 4 days. Still not bad.
Charging time is about an hour of 0 to 100 percent.
