More than half of the pie

The AirPods launched by Apple started this lineup or category of headphones in which the earbuds are no longer connected by a wire. Most of the premium smartphones that were released recently lack a headphone jack, and that may contribute to the rise of this trend.

Apple has the largest share in this pie, more than half since it has 54.4 shares of the TWS market. According to data from Strategy Analytics, it was able to ship 58.7 million AirPods in 2019. Aside from that, Apple had collected 71 percent of the revenues from the TWS market worldwide.

The second biggest player is the Chinese tech giant, Xiaomi, with its 8.5 percent share from the 9.1 million units of TWS units it was able to sell. Xiaomi climbed its way by introducing different kinds of headsets as options, plus an advantage on pricing versus its competitors.

Samsung, on the other hand, comes in the third spot with a 6.9 percent share. It only managed to ship 7.4 million pairs of Galaxy Buds last year. February this year, Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy Buds+ along with the Galaxy S20. According to the current leaks, the Galaxy Buds+ will not feature active noise cancelation in favor of a larger battery.

There was a forecast by Strategy Analytics that the global TWS market will be 10 times larger by the year 2024 in terms of units sold. Also, the revenues are predicted to go higher than USD 100 billion which will result in growth in this sector.
