Months after upgrading the bigger 15-inch line of MacBook Pros into the new 16-inch models, Apple has finally updated the 13-inch line with new processors, better keyboard, higher base storage, and LPDDR4X RAM. After years of controversy with the durability of the butterfly switches introduced in 2016, Apple has since made a new keyboard that addresses the issues that were introduced in the new 16-inch and are now in the new 13-inch models.
One of the most important changes is the return of the "Esc" key that was lost since 2016 as it became a part of the Touch Bar.
All four models share the Touch Bar, Touch ID, 13-inch Retina display with True Tone, and the new Magic Keyboard.
The entry-level model now has 1.4GHz quad-core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Intel Iris Plus Graphics, 8GB LPDDR3 RAM, and a bigger base storage of 256GB. The next model just doubles the SSD storage 512. Both models feature two Thunderbolt 3/USB Type-C ports.
The most impactful change is the new 3733MHz LPDDR4X RAM for the higher tier variants as it will over a significant speed increase for RAM intensive workloads from the older 2133MHz LPDDR3.
The third variant has a base configuration with 2.0 GHz 10-Generation Intel Core i5 Quad-core processors, Intel Iris Plus Graphics, 16GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X RAM, 512GB SSD storage. The fourth variant doubles the SSD storage to 1TB. Both models have four Thunderbolt 3/USB Type-C ports.
