Android 11 for Pixel Phones

The Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, and Pixel 4a have begun receiving the latest stable build of Android 11 from Google. To check and download the update, Pixel users simply have to go to Settings > System > Advanced > System update. Users can also visit the developer's page for the Factory Images and OTA images.

Android 11 comes with several new features that are focused around messaging and notifications. Notifications now show a separate section for messaging apps. This means that it is separate messages from other apps. Messages will now show floating elements at the edge of the screen called bubbles. It is a blatant copy of Facebook Messenger's Chat heads.

When you press and hold the power button, you will now see all of the smart home devices connected in the same network. You will also see the different payment options available to the users to make payments with NFC readers more convenient.

Media controls have been redesigned to be easier to use which looks suspiciously like the ones in iOS. Users are now given the option to switch the audio output device between your phone speakers, your headphones, or a nearby smart device.

Android Auto now works wirelessly with compatible vehicle audio systems.

A major new feature is that users can now grant an app one-time permissions access. This way, users don't have to manually disable the permission after using the app nor do users have to worry if the app is using the permissions in the background. The other great feature is that if an app hasn't been used in a while, Android will automatically revoke the permissions given to an app to prevent it from accessing data in the background.

List of devices included in the Android 11 Open Beta

There is no word yet when the beta builds will be available for download for the above-listed devices.

Google adds that more devices will receive the beta once more stable builds become available.
