Microsoft paid USD 7.5 billion for Zenimax Media

Microsoft now owns Zenimax Media's 13 studios

This is one of the biggest acquisitions in recent history. For USD 7.5 billion, Microsoft now holds ownership for over 13 studios that have around 2,300 employees. This could also mean a big shift in Xbox and PC exclusives since the IPs will now fall under the Xbox armory.

Some of the bigger series to take note of are The Elder Scrolls series that sprouted Skyrim, Fallout series, Doom, Quake, Dishonored, the new Wolfenstein series, and The Evil Within. In addition, the much-anticipated horror game, Ghostwire: Tokyo also shifted hands in this deal.

Here's the complete list of studios acquired by Microsoft:

  • Alpha Dog Games
  • Arkane Studios worked on Dishonored
  • Arkane Studios Austin
  • Bethesda Game Studios worked Fallout 3 and Fallout 4
  • Bethesda Game Studios Austin
  • Bethesda Game Studios Dallas
  • Bethesda Game Studios Montreal
  • Bethesda Softworks
  • id Software worked on Doom Eternal
  • MachineGames worked on the modern Wolfenstein series
  • Roundhouse Studios worked on Rune II
  • Tango Gameworks worked on The Evil Within and  Ghostwire: Tokyo
  • ZeniMax Online Studios worked on Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online

For Fallout fans, this could also mean something big. Microsoft also owns Obsidian which brought us Fallout: New Vegas. Now that Microsoft owns Bethesda, this could mean the answer to our wishes, Fallout: New Vegas 2. This could also mean that more of the games from Zenimax Media will be available via Xbox Game Pass.
