Mediatek said that the 7nm MT8192 is for mainstream devices while the 6nm MT8195 is for more premium devices. Both are designed to enable brands to design powerful, sleek, and lightweight Chromebooks with longer battery life and incredible computing experiences.

The new chips boast high-performance AI processing unit (APU) to power a wide range of voice and vision-based applications. MediaTek said that it is designed to seamlessly process voice ID recognition and voice control, speech and image recognition, speech to text, live translation, object recognition, background removal, noise reduction, image/video segmentation, and gesture control, in real-time.

Both chipsets also have a dedicated audio digital signal processor (DSP) for ultra-low-power voice wakeup (VoW) for voice assistants.

MT8192 comes with an octa-core CPU design using 4x Cortex-A76 cores and 4x Cortex-A55 cores paired with ARM Mali-G57 GPU. The APU 2.0 tech of this chip has up to 2.4 TOPs performance. It also supports 2133MHz LPDDR4x, UFS 2.1 storage, and up to WQHD display at 60Hz or FHD+ screens up to 120Hz.

MediaTek also shared that brands can design Chromebooks with a variety of camera configuration with an HDR signal processor and built-in hardware depth engine which supports up to 80MP 4-cell cameras, single 32MP cameras, or 16MP + 16MP dual-cams.

The chips also have Dolby Vision, 7.1 surround sound audio, Codec AV1 hardware video accelerator, AV1 hardware decoding, 4K HDR video decoding, PCI-Express Gen 3, and USB 3.2 Gen 1.

MT8192 is expected to hit the market in Q2 2021. MT8195 for premium Chromebooks, smart displays, tablets, and other smart devices, which will hit the market at a later date.
