A three-peat: Smart as PH's fastest mobile network

PLDT's wireless unit has been dominating the mobile telco game, beating Globe in terms of Speed Score, and average upload and download speeds for three years in a row.

In a statement, Smart said this was based on millions of consumer-initiated tests performed on Speedtest on LTE-capable devices in the Philippines.

This award recognizes Smart’s commitment to delivering fast speeds to their customers across the Philippines. With this latest win, Smart has won the Speedtest Award for Fastest Mobile Network in the Philippines three consecutive years in a row, said Ookla CEO Douglas Suttles.

Last 2018, Smart had a Speed Score of 15.06 versus Globe's 9.9. Average download and upload speeds were at 17.24 megabits per second (Mbps) and 8.11 Mbps, respectively.

A year later, Smart recorded a Speed Score of 17.4, still higher than Globe's 10.65. Average download and upload speeds were at 19.62 megabits per second (Mbps) and 9.45 Mbps, respectively.

In 2020, Ookla said Smart achieved a Speed Score of 18.33 covering the first half; and 24.99 for the second semester.
