Let's dive in!
Unboxing/Accessories
|
Box inclusions |
The OPPO A74 comes in the familiar white box with OPPO branding and the render of the phone in front of it.
Inside the box are the phone, silicone case, SIM ejector tool, earphones, USB Type-A to Type-C, and the 33W power adapter. In 2021, having a complete set like this is a feature.
Build Quality/Design
|
Rear panel |
The OPPO A74 is made of a combination of glass and high-quality polycarbonate. In front is the glass while the back is glasstic. In between the two is the lightweight but solid polycarbonate frame.
The back glasstic panel has a glossy finish and is a fingerprint smudge magnet. On the top left is the rear camera module while at the bottom right is the OPPO logo. The back is mostly in a blue colorway but shines and shimmers brightly that reveal a more silver-like color depending on how the light hits the back panel. It is eye-catchingly beautiful.

The Witcher on Netflix |
In front is the 6.43-inch AMOLED panel with an in-display fingerprint scanner and a punch hole that houses the 16MP selfie camera. The panel is surrounded by a super slim top and side bezels with a slightly thicker chin bezel.
|
Top and bottom |
The frame in between has a tint of blue with a glossy polish. On top is a single microphone port while at the bottom is a microphone port, speaker grille, USB-C port, and 3.5mm audio jack.
|
Left and right side |
On the left is the triple slot SIM tray that can house two nano-SIM cards and one microSD card while on the right side is the volume rocker and the power button.
|
Rear camera module |
The aforementioned rear-mounted triple camera set-up is made up of a 48MP main camera, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor.
Running the show is ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11. The included camera app includes modes like Photo, video, night, portrait, expert, macro, pano, slo-mo and time-lapse. The app can switch between 1x, 2x, and 5x.
The expert or Pro mode allows for control of ISO (100-6400), Shutter Speed (1/8000 to 32 seconds), White Balance, AF, and EV (+- 2).

Colors of the GIZGUIDE page on the A74 |
In the Philippines, the OPPO A74 comes in 6GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration and is priced at only PHP 11,999.
Out of the box, the phone has a super striking design with glass, glasstic, and polycarbonate materials. Our only concern with the build and design is it's prone to fingerprint smudges.
Competition is fierce in its price segment. Even though the A74 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with a 33W Flash charge, it faces stiff competition.
So stay tuned for our full review of how it performs.
