Due to the recent controversy involving how the OnePlus 9 is "throttling" several popular apps, the company today issued an explainer.
OnePlus said that since smartphone processors have continued to become stronger every year, their power is "often overkill" in certain scenarios for many apps like social media, browsers, and even some light gaming.
To address this, OnePlus claimed that the company is optimizing each app to match the "most appropriate" performance it needed.
For the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, the company noted that when you open apps or heavy games, it's Snapdragon 888 processor with X1 super core will run at full speed. On actions that do not require such power, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro will reduce the CPU frequency to reduce power and heat dissipation while maintaining smooth performance.
Some of the apps that OnePlus "optimize" are Chrome, Twitter, Zoom, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Discord, Microsoft Office, and its own apps. The brand boasts that all of this optimization is only finalized after our testing team makes sure the actual user experience is not negatively affected.
What do you guys think?
