Unboxing/Accessories

What's in the box?

The JBL Live Pro+ TWS earbuds came in with a compact box with a sleeve donning the white and orange signature brand color. Upfront, it has the render of the unit itself, some branding, features information, and a CES Innovation Awards 2021 logo. Around the box, more information about the different features is laid out.

Pulling the tab at the bottom, it reveals a sleek inner box containing all the good stuff. Opening it, you will get the pair of JBL Live Pro+ TWS earbuds, the charging case, 4 extra silicone tips, and the USB-C charging cable in orange.

Build Quality/Design

The JBL Live Pro+ TWS features design choices you would expect from the brand. What we got was the Black variant but it is available in White, Pink, and Beige. The charging case has a rounded square shape. It is also flatter than an average charging case as well. It has a matte finish with a single muted JBL logo on the cover.

At the bottom, it has certifications information. At the back, it has a USB-C port for charging while the front has the LED indicators.

The earbuds themselves have a stemmed design made out of tough plastic. They also have a matte finish with JBL logos at the end of the stem. Both have LED indicators for Bluetooth connectivity and pairing. They are also IPX4 water-resistant as well.

Comfort/Isolation

The JBL Live Pro+ is very comfortable to use even in long listening sessions. We have used it during our Netflix and YouTube sessions, listening to Spotify, and while working out. Even when moving around, the Live Pro+ remained snuggly in my ears.

Sound Isolation is great due to its Adaptive Noise Cancelling feature as well as the highly customizable silicone tips. Even at 50 percent volume, you will be immersed in what you are listening to. The Ambient Sound Control is also effective when you need to be aware of your surroundings.

Battery

The JBL Live Pro+ features a 55mAh battery in each earbud and a 500mAh battery in the charging case. With ANC on, we were able to last around 6 hours of continuous playtime on a single charge. Without ANC, it can last around 7 to 8 hours. With the charging case, we were able to last around 6 days before needing to charge again.

The earbuds can be fully charged from empty in 2 hours via the charging case. It is marketed to be able to provide 1 hour of playback with a 15-minute charge. The charging case if drained needs around 2 hours to fully charge via USB-C. You can get around 4 full charges from the charging case.

The charging case has 5 LED indicators that effectively convey how much juice it has left. With the JBL Headphones app, you can see more information including the percentage for both earbuds and the charging case itself.

Features

The JBL Live Pro+ has Google Fast Pair support making it easy to pair on any device. But, you need to install the JBL Headphones app to fully take advantage of all the Live Pro+ features. Once you take out the earbuds off the charging case, the app will detect them and you can then customize your settings. It has ANC controls, Ambient Sound control, and a dedicated EQ.

Connectivity is very reliable among all the devices we tried. We were able to test it with our POCO X3 NFC, realme 7, Huawei MatePad, and the Moto G50 5G. Once the app is downloaded, we were able to enjoy our audio experience with the Live Pro+. It can also be connected to multiple devices via the app as well.

Here are the touch controls it has:

Left Earbud
1 tap - ANC/Ambient Aware toggle
2 taps - TalkThru mode
2 taps during call - Pick up/Hang up
Long press during call - Mute/Unmute
Long press - Voice Assistant

Right Earbud
1 tap - Play/Pause
2 taps - Next track
3 taps - Previous track
2 taps during call - Pick up/Hang up
Long press during call - Mute/Unmute
Long press - Voice Assistant

It also has smart features such as auto pause and plays when you remove the earbuds from your ears. It also responds to voice commands for both Google Assistant and Alexa. It uses Bluetooth 5.0 though which is ok but 5.2 can be better.

Audio

The JBL Live Pro+ has an 11mm driver in each earbud. It is tuned by Harman Kardon to deliver the JBL Signature Sound. For further customization, the dedicated EQ via the JBL Headphones app has different music genre presets as well as up to 2 custom presets. With all these customizations, listening to music came with a rich sound with a great balance of bass, mids, and highs.

With Netflix, the stereo experience it can provide will further enhance your immersion. Explosions, dialogs, and ambient environment noises do not overpower each other. This does vary per movie or show but that is more on the editing and less about the JBL Live Pro+ capabilities.

The Active Noise Cancelling feature has three levels in Everyday Mode, Travel Mode, and Active mode. We used Everyday mode most of the time but the two other mode does their particular jobs very well.

Travel mode is designed more for usage during plane and train rides. While outside, we used the Active mode to be more aware of our surroundings without compromising the immersion that much.

The Ambient Sound Control has two modes. The Ambient Aware mode allows you to be aware of your surroundings more. The TalkThru mode allows you to talk to someone by canceling out the music without removing the earbuds from your ears.

For calls, it provided clear and loud sound due to its 6 microphones. These 6 mics work together for noise and wind isolation to provide great audio during calls. It didn't cut out during our usage as well which is always a plus.

Pros - Great design with premium build, long battery life, good Bluetooth connectivity, amazing audio quality with EQ, ANC, and Ambient Aware mode, dedicated app, IPX4 water splash resistance, touch controls
Cons - Fingerprint magnet, a bit pricey

Verdict

What's the verdict?

For PHP 9,199, the JBL Live Pro+ is on the pricier side of the TWS earbuds. But, this is warranted. It has a great design for both the charging case and earbuds, amazing audio with ANC, a dedicated app for additional controls and features, IPX4 resistance, and Wireless charging.

If you have the budget, we highly recommend the JBL Live Pro+.
