MediaTek launches 6nm Kompanio 900T SoC for tablets and more!

A few months following the launch of Kompanio 1300T, the first Kompanio-branded chip of MediaTek for tablets, the company today announced the 900T.

According to the world's number 1 smartphone processor maker, the Kompanio 900T SoC is also designed to allow OEMs to build powerful, thin, and lightweight tablets, portable notebooks, and other devices with long battery life.

It also promises strong computing capabilities and ultra-low power consumption with the company’s advanced technologies for multimedia, AI, gaming, and wireless connectivity.

The chip is designed under the most advanced 6nm process. It uses 2x ARM Cortex-A78 ultra-performance cores and 6x ARM Cortex-A55 power-efficient cores. The chip is assisted by the ARM Mali-G68 GPU and MediaTek APU for AI processing.

Kompanio 900T also supports 120Hz refresh rate screens up to 2K resolution, up to LPDDR5 RAM, up to UFS 3.1 storage, and 5G.

Its integrated 5G modem supports standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) dual-mode networking with full coverage of 5G sub-6GHz, along with 5G dual-carrier aggregation and Voice over New Radio (VoNR) services. It also has the company's own MediaTek 5G UltraSave power-saving technology for extended battery life even while using 5G.

The chip also has support for  2x2 MIMO WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, multiple peripheral extensions, MiraVision image quality engine, and AI-enhanced video display features.

MediaTek notes that this can enhance SDR video content to near HDR quality and upgrade HDR10 to nearly HDR10+. Of course, it supports pure HDR10+ video playback as well in real-time.

The Kompanio 900 delivers robust computing power, outstanding audio and video multimedia features, smooth gaming capabilities, and support for the latest 5G and wireless features so users can get the most out of their devices.

According to the company, devices with the MediaTek Kompanio 900T inside will be available soon.
