NTC orders Facebook, Shopee, and Lazada to stop selling text blast machines that sent #BBM2022 "emergency" alerts
NTC (National Telecommunications Commission) has order e-commerce platforms Facebook Marketplace, Shopee, and Lazada to stop the sale of text blast machines saying this has violated the law.

The announcement came after an emergency alert was sent while presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos was filing his certificate of candidacy.

NTC asked the said platforms to appear before the commission on October 27. The cease-and-desist order for each platform was dated October 11 and was issued on Tuesday.
According to NTC, it has not authorized the importation, manufacture, sale, and distribution of devices such as Hitech SMS Blaster, SMS Location Blasting System, and other similar products found on their platforms.
Its sale without authorization violates the Republic Act 3846 or The Radio Control Law and various rules and regulations such as memorandum order 01-02-2013 titled the Prohibition of Portable Cellular Mobile Repeater and Portable Cell Site Equipment. According to the Radio Control Law, NTC permits and a Congressional franchise were required to operate radio stations.
It also said that the e-commerce platforms must explain in writing within 15 days why they should not be held liable for violations and why the said "violative" products should not be subject to confiscation or forfeiture.

As of writing, the said text blast machines are not found on Shopee and Lazada anymore. On Facebook Marketplace, you will still see a listing of the said unauthorized device.
