Huawei P50 Pocket is now official, a gapless clamshell foldable smartphone with powerful cameras!

On schedule, tech giant Huawei today unveiled its very-first clamshell-type foldable smartphone in an online event, the P50 Pocket.

Huawei P50 Pocket is a device boasting a beautifully textured back design with unique-looking vein-like patterns in Diamond White and Premium Gold colors.

As you will notice, the company also retained the dual circle design of the P50 series on the P50 Pocket. One of the circles is housing a 1-inch circular AMOLED display that could be used to display widgets and even use several features of the P50 like taking selfies using the primary camera of the phone without using its selfie camera. The other circle is for its powerful cameras.

This foldable device uses a large 6.9-inch inner display. It's an OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and 1 billion colors. It also has a punch-hole for a 13MP selfie camera.

Highlights of the phone

Unlike other brands, the folding mechanism of the P50 Pocket has no visible gap. How? it used Huawei's patented multi-dimensional hinge design.

Under the hood, it is using the 4G version of the 5nm Snapdragon 888 4G processor. Sadly, it isn't the 5G version due to the restrictions imposed by the US government on Huawei.

It is paired with 8GB/12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB/512GB UFS 3.1 internal storage, and a 4,000mAh battery. This is bigger than the battery of most clamshell foldable smartphones. Moreover, it is paired with a USB-C 40W SuperCharge tech.

Since it is a P series smartphone, the P50 Pocket is equipped with capable cameras, unlike other clamshell foldables. It uses a 40MP f/1.8 26mm True-Chroma primary camera + 13MP f/2.2 13mm ultra-wide-angle camera + 32MP f/1.8 30mm Ultra Spectrum (for more details) camera. It also has Laser AF and XD Fusion Pro technology to help users focus faster and improve the overall quality of the images it will take, respectively.

The device also has a side-mounted fingerprint reader, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, and EMUI 12 out of the box.

The Diamond White and Premium Gold version will be available globally. The Black version is exclusive to China.
