Finally! Quick Share to AirDrop!
In a statement, the internet giant said that it has found a way to make Quick Share with Android work with Apple AirDrop for iPhones.
The update has started rolling out to the Pixel 10 Series. Google said that soon, the feature will further improve and expand to more Android devices.
We built this with security at its core, protecting your data with strong safeguards that were tested by independent security experts. It's just one more way we're bringing better compatibility that people are asking for between operating systems, following our work on RCS and unknown tracker alerts.
Based on the quick video shared by Google, the Pixel 10 Pro, using Quick Share for Android, was able to easily transfer a photo file to an iPhone that made its AirDrop available for nearby devices.
Transferring files between iPhones and Androids used to be a hassle without messengers or cloud services, as users had to rely on slower methods. Previously, Quick Share and AirDrop weren't compatible, and direct transfers via Bluetooth were blocked due to Apple's restrictions.
Thankfully, that is not the case anymore with the Pixel 10 Series and soon with other Android devices.
Google did not directly say if Quick Share will work with iPad and Mac as well, but in theory, that should be the case.
9to5Google reported that Google did not partner with Apple to make this interoperability work. Instead, the company leveraged its own implementation.
BUT, they are open to collaboration opportunities to address the interoperability issues between iOS and Android.
9to5Google also tried it and shared that Pixel 10 owners should go to: Settings app > tap their name at the top for Google services > All services > Privacy & security > System services. Update “Quick Share Extension” and reboot your phone to enable the service.
To enable, Pixel 10 owners have to go to: Settings app > tap their name at the top for Google services > All services > Privacy & security > System services. Update “Quick Share Extension” and reboot your phone.
In particular, the Android maker expressed interest in collaborating with Apple to bring "Contacts Only" mode in the future.
