At the recently concluded OPPO INNO DAY 2021, the Chinese tech giant also shared its own Retractable Camera technology.

Similar to what they earlier teased, the OPPO Retractable Camera technology features a large 1/1.56-inch 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor with an equivalent focal length of 52mm (around 2x optical zoom)m when extended.

According to OPPO, with the help of this camera tech, users will be able to capture shots with Natural Optical Bokeh, not with the help of a traditional portrait camera + software tricks. Of course, it can optically zoom up to 2x without the help of a separate zoom camera. Basically, this eliminates 2 extra cameras on multiple camera setups.

OPPO also notes that this tech has water splash and dust resistance, minimizes the camera bump when retracted, and can automatically fully retract in just 0.6 seconds when dropped.

Going back to the camera, it features OIS for stabilization and autofocus (AF). OPPO claims that it can also take high-resolution images with a high signal-to-noise ratio.

OPPO will bring this tech on its future devices. But, there is no exact timeline yet. Likely, they will try to refine it like the OPPO Find N foldable smartphone.
