To recap, vivo recently launched the Y21T in the Philippines. It features a 6.51-inch HD+ display while inside is the 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 octa-core processor, Adreno 610 GPU, 4GB RAM + 1GB Extended RAM, 128GB UFS 2.1, and a large 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging.

At the back is a 50MP triple rear camera set up while in front is an 8MP selfie camera.

In the Philippines, it is priced at PHP 10,999.

Is it worth it? This is part 1 of our review. Let's dive in.

Unboxing/Accessories

The new Y21T comes in the familiar white box with the vivo branding, specs, special features, and regulatory information. Unlike previous generations, there is no render of the phone.

Inside is the phone, 18W wall charger, SIM ejector tool, USB Type-A to Type-C cable, bumper case, and documentation. There are no earphones included.

It is nice to see that vivo still includes a charger and a silicone case inside the box. This has become a rarity in higher price smartphones. However, it is unfortunate that vivo did not include earphones, unlike previous generations.

Build Quality/Design

Rear view
Rearview

At first glance, the vivo Y21T looks like a more premium smartphone. Upon closer inspection, we find that it is has a glass front panel, polycarbonate frame, and glasstic back panel.

There is no mention of glass protection for the display though.

But, the phone may have a form of water and dust resistance as the SIM tray is layered with a red rubber gasket. The SIM tray can carry up to two nano-SIM cards and one microSD card.

Smooth and premium look for an affordable smartphone!

The back panel has a smooth surface. However, glasstic is still glasstic and it still feels less premium than glass. The frame is smooth and flat with chamfered edge. Overall, the phone is eyecatching but is slippery and is a fingerprint smudge magnet.
Vibrant display?
Vibrant display?

In front is the aforementioned 6.51-inch curved LCD display with a resolution of 1600 x 720 and 270 ppi. The top and side bezels are almost slim while the bottom bezel is noticeably thicker than the rest.

HD+ display only and it has a notch instead of a punch-hole...

On top of the display is a notch that houses the selfie camera and a slim earpiece. It is not the brightest panel we've seen in the price range but the colors and contrast are good.

On top is the SIM tray while at the bottom is the 3.5mm audio jack, microphone, USB-C port, and speaker grills.
Left and right sides

On the left side is a smooth surface while on the right side is the volume rocker and the power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner.

The phone measures 164.26 x 76.08 x 8.0 mm and weighs 182 grams. It is surprisingly lightweight.

At the back are the 50MP f/1.8 main camera, 2MP f/2.4 macro, and 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor triple rear cameras with an LED flash.

We have yet to try its cameras. Stay tuned!

As of the moment

The new vivo Y21T

In AnTuTu, the new vivo Y21T managed to score 238,064. It is not the best, but it is in the expected range of performance from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680.
THICC bezels
THICC bezels

The vivo Y21T is an eye-catching smartphone with flat sides with chamfered edges that make it pleasing to look at while being easy to hold. It is also surprisingly lightweight but because of the smooth back panel, it is slippery and is a fingerprint smudge magnet.

On paper, the specs look decent but we will have to do more testing to answer whether this smartphone is worth the PHP 10,999. Our main concern is the 720p display.

But, we are excited to see how power-efficient the new 6nm Snapdragon 680 is.

What do you guys think?
